Clean City and Tidy Towns Programme

Clean City and Tidy Towns Programme

Investing £990,000 in more welcoming, accessible and attractive city and town centres.

The Clean City and Tidy Towns Programme will deliver targeted improvements to streets and public spaces in Bangor, Comber, Donaghadee, Holywood and Newtownards during 2026/27 and 2027/28. Funded by £900,000 from the Department for Communities and a £90,000 Council contribution, this significant investment will complement improvements to business premises and protect previous investment in our centres.

What improvements are planned?

Planned works include paving repairs and treatment; improvements to seating, litter bins, lighting, planting and cycle infrastructure; CCTV infrastructure upgrades; parklet refresh works; and placemaking initiatives.

How will the programme benefit our centres?

The programme will improve the streets and public spaces around local businesses, helping to create places where people want to shop, work and visit. It forms part of the wider Supporting Thriving High Streets and Places Programme, linking investment in individual properties with improvements to their surroundings.

Is this a grant scheme?

No. Clean City and Tidy Towns is a Council-led programme of improvements, rather than a grant scheme for individual applicants.
