Freshen Up Grant
Opens Friday 1 May 2026
Ards and North Down Borough Council is pleased to launch the Freshen Up Grant, part of the wider Supporting Thriving High Streets Programme, aimed at improving the appearance of shopfronts across key town and city centres.
The grant supports eligible businesses to carry out painting and/or power washing works, helping to enhance the look and feel of our high streets, encourage footfall and strengthen pride of place.
Who Can Apply
Any active business in the urban centres of Bangor, Comber, Donaghadee, Holywood and Newtownards (please refer to the maps provided to check your property is located within the boundary)
Property owners or tenants (with relevant permissions where applicable)
What the Grant Funds
- External painting of shopfronts
- Power washing of façade and frontage areas
Key Dates
- Grant opens: 9am on Friday 1 May 2026
- Grant closes: 12noon on Friday 29 May 2026

Applicants may choose from a list of local painters and contractors who have registered their interest and provided proof of public liability insurance.
