Net-Zero Commitment 

As a local authority, we're committed to taking bold, evidence-based action to protect our environment and reduce emissions — while supporting healthier communities and sustainable economic growth.  

 Our carbon emissions explained:  

Scope 1 (Direct) - Emissions from things we own or control (e.g. fuel used for council vehicles)        

Scope 2 (Purchased Energy) - Emissions from electricity, heat or cooling we buy           

Scope 3 (Other Indirect) - Emissions from activities in our supply chain or community (e.g. procurement, travel, waste)  

*Scope 3 emission calculations are ongoing and will be updated when complete *  

We are committed to:   

• reducing the Council's Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 48% by 2030 (compared to our baseline year 2019/2020); 
• achieving Net Zero Council emissions by 2050.
