Introduction

Climate Change and Sustainability

Ards and North Down Borough Council recognises that in the context of a global climate emergency, there can be no more 'business as usual' and that we must fundamentally change the way we plan, manage and operate so that both the Council and the Borough can become more sustainable.

In February 2019, Ards and North Down Borough Council declared a climate emergency and set ambitious targets for the Borough to reduce our carbon emissions by 48% by 2030, and reach Net Zero by 2050, to match the goals set out in the Paris Agreement and the UK and Northern Ireland Climate Change Acts.

Our policies and plans:

  1. Corporate Plan (2024-2028)
  2. Roadmap to sustainability (2021 - 2028)
  3. Climate Mitigation Action Plan (2025 - 2030) (PDF, 1 MB) (opens new window)
  4.  Climate Adaptation plan (PDF, 1 MB) (opens new window)
