Urban Waterfront Public Realm Development

Bangor's coastline and stunning sea views are some of the city's most significant selling points.  The Bangor Waterfront Redevelopment programme includes a significant Urban Waterfront/Public Realm improvement which will enhance a 2-mile section of the waterfront, sympathetically, sustainably and in ways that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. 

The largest and most ambitious of the projects that make up the Bangor Waterfront Redevelopment, the Urban Waterfront/Public Realm proposal will see a sizeable investment in new public realm stretching from Skippingstone in the west of the city, to Bank's Lane in the east.  

In September 2026, Council appointed AECOM as the Integrated Concept Design Team to design, manage and deliver this element of the Programme. 

Particular attention will be given to: Skippingstone Beach (potentially multi-use pods for beach activities, accessibility features, feature lighting/benches) and Ballyholme (water sports opportunities).
