Urban Waterfront Public Realm Development

Bangor's coastline and stunning sea views are some of the city's most significant selling points.  The Bangor Waterfront Redevelopment programme includes a significant Urban Waterfront/Public Realm improvement which will enhance a 2-mile section of the waterfront, sympathetically, sustainably and in ways that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

The largest of the projects that make up the Bangor Waterfront Redevelopment, the Urban Waterfront/Public Realm proposal will see a sizeable investment in new public realm stretching from Skippingstone in the west of the city, to Bank's Lane in the east.

Travelling from Skippingstone to Ballyholme (or vice versa) should be a real voyage of discovery - creative signage, pathways and artistic features to encourage more people to use the route and enjoy the journey.

Particular attention will be given to: Skippingstone Beach (potentially multi-use pods for beach activities, accessibility features, feature lighting/benches) and Ballyholme (water sports opportunities).

Council is currently out to tender for an ICT to design, develop and manage this project and it is hoped that an appointment will be announced before the end of 2025.
