Borough Cemetery Provision

Ards and North Down Borough Council has this week completed the purchase of land at Ballymacormick Road, Bangor for £1.15 million, securing a site identified as the preferred long-term solution for future cemetery provision across a significant part of the Borough. This will complement the planned extension to Movilla Cemetery, Newtownards. 

The need for additional provision is increasingly urgent. Three existing Council cemeteries are projected to exhaust their capacity for new graves within approximately two years, demonstrating the need to secure suitable land now and protect future burial provision.

While the land has now been acquired, further design work, approvals and statutory processes will be required before any future cemetery development can be progressed. Council is committed to engaging with local residents and stakeholders as proposals are developed.
