Led by Age Friendly Ards and North Down in partnership with the Public Health Agency, Positive Ageing Month celebrates the valuable contribution older people make to communities across the Borough while highlighting the many ways residents can stay active, connected and engaged.

This year's theme, 'What's On Your Doorstep?', encourages people to explore the wealth of opportunities available close to home. From social groups and learning opportunities to physical activity programmes, local attractions and community services, the month aims to help older residents make the most of what is available in their area.

As part of the celebrations, a free Positive Ageing Roadshow will take place at Ards Blair Mayne Wellbeing and Leisure Complex on Thursday 22 October, from 11am to 2pm.

Funded by Ards and North Down Borough Council, the Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP), the Public Health Agency, and the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust, the Roadshow will provide information on services and support available to help people age well and maintain independence.

The event will feature light physical activity sessions, informative presentations and a range of exhibitors, offering practical advice and resources to help residents stay active, healthy and connected within their communities. Lunch will also be provided.

The Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Craig Blaney, said:

"Positive Ageing Month is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the contribution older people make to life across Ards and North Down, while also helping residents find out more about the services, activities and support available in their local area.

This year's theme, 'What's On Your Doorstep?', highlights the many opportunities available across our Borough for people to stay active, make new connections and enjoy all that their communities have to offer. I would encourage anyone who is interested to register for the Roadshow and come along to discover what is on their doorstep."

Registration for the Positive Ageing Roadshow is required by Thursday 15 October. A reserve list will be operated if demand exceeds capacity. Residents are welcome to attend on their own or with a friend.
