Annual Veterans Day Event
Released: Friday 28 August 2026
Ards and North Down Borough Council, in partnership with the Royal British Legion, will host the annual Veterans Day event in Conway Square, Newtownards, on Friday 18 September.
The event provides an opportunity for residents and visitors to come together to recognise and honour the service and sacrifice of veterans from across the Borough who have served in the Armed Forces. It also acknowledges the important contribution made by serving personnel, reservists and military families to communities both locally and nationally.
As part of the event, a parade led by Ballywalter Flute Band will set off from Court Square at 7.00pm. The parade will proceed via Court Street and South Street to Conway Square, where it will be received by local dignitaries. Following a welcome from the Mayor, attendees will enjoy a musical performance by the band and a short civic ceremony of recognition and remembrance.
The Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Craig Blaney, said:
"Veterans Day is an important opportunity for us to come together as a community to recognise the dedication, courage and service of those who have served in our Armed Forces. Many veterans continue to make a significant contribution to life across our Borough long after their military service has ended, and this event offers us the chance to express our gratitude and appreciation for all they have done in service to our country.
Working in partnership with the Royal British Legion, we are proud to continue this long-standing event and I would encourage residents to come along and show their support for our veteran community."
Following the conclusion of the ceremony at approximately 7.45pm, Ballywalter Flute Band will follow a return route from Conway Square to Court Square via High Street, Mill Street, Gibson's Lane, Regent Street, Frances Street, Castle Place and Castle Street.
Members of the public are warmly invited to attend and support this year's Veterans Day event.
