Released: Wednesday 25 June 2025

What an incredible Saturday in Newtownards! Thousands turned out to honour our armed forces with a full day of pride, pageantry and powerful moments.

  • The Military Parade - Over 400 personnel marched through town, with military bands leading the way. The streets were lined with cheers and heartfelt respect.
  • The Red Arrows - Northern Ireland's only display this year... and they didn't disappoint! 23 minutes of sky-high thrills. Absolutely breathtaking!
  •  The Falcons Parachute Team - Their landing was precision-perfect, handing over the Armed Forces Day flag to Air Marshal Sean Reynolds right on the airfield.
  • Military Village at Ards Airfield - From vintage vehicles and STEM exhibits to food stalls and even an omelette cook-off with the Mayor - there was something for everyone!
  • Moments of Reflection - A Drumhead Service, gun salute, and the Beating Retreat reminded us all why we were there: to honour those who serve and have served.

It was a perfect mix of celebration, community spirit, and quiet reflection. Huge thanks to all involved - service members, volunteers, Council staff and of course, everyone who came out to support.
