PEACEPLUS CAPITAL PROJECTS
Objective of the PEACEPLUS Programme
To build Peace and Prosperity and ensure that the Programme will leave a lasting and tangible legacy across NI and the border counties of Ireland.
Investment Area 1.1:
To enable and empower local community partnerships, led by the local authorities, to select and deliver priority projects on a cross-community basis, which will result in shared and inclusive local services, facilities and spaces; and make a significant and lasting contribution to peace and reconciliation
TIMELINE
· PEACEPLUS Partnership was formed in July 2022
· SEUPB has provided the allocations to Ards and North Down PEACEPLUS Partnership €5,681,833 with a total of €1,788,485.75 going towards Theme 1 - Community Regeneration and Transformation.
· Extensive Public Consultation began in October 2022 to develop co co-designed Action Plan.
· December 2024 - Council decision to proceed with 3 projects -
- Donaghadee Pump track - £219,351
- Bangor Cycle Park - £1,149,347
- Castle Park, Portaferry - £186,507
PORTAFERRY PARKLANDS
Council will engage with the local community on how best to regenerate this area.
Points to note -
• The PEACEPLUS Partnership will monitor the delivery and progress of the Plan
• Council is responsible for the Plan and carries all risk involved
• Council is responsible for the capital projects and must complete a revenue project for each of the 3 capital projects within 2 years from the letter of offer and achieve participant numbers or funding will be reduced
• Delays in implementation increase the cost to the Council

A public engagement event was held in Portaferry Market House on the above date and feedback from this will be taken into consideration when the proposed scheme is finalised.

Please note: Project 1A (Park Hub Building Refurbishment) and 1B (Tree Space Canopy) are the proposals that will be taken forward with funding from the Peace Plus Partnership.
The other ideas are potential projects that may be taken forward in the future, subject to funding availability and statutory consents.
