PEACEPLUS CAPITAL PROJECTS

Objective of the PEACEPLUS Programme

To build Peace and Prosperity and ensure that the Programme will leave a lasting and tangible legacy across NI and the border counties of Ireland.

Investment Area 1.1:

To enable and empower local community partnerships, led by the local authorities, to select and deliver priority projects on a cross-community basis, which will result in shared and inclusive local services, facilities and spaces; and make a significant and lasting contribution to peace and reconciliation

TIMELINE

·      PEACEPLUS Partnership was formed in July 2022

·      SEUPB has provided the allocations to Ards and North Down PEACEPLUS Partnership €5,681,833 with a total of €1,788,485.75 going towards Theme 1 - Community Regeneration and Transformation.

·      Extensive Public Consultation began in October 2022 to develop co co-designed Action Plan.

·      December 2024 - Council decision to proceed with 3 projects -

  • Donaghadee Pump track - £219,351
  • Bangor Cycle Park - £1,149,347
  • Castle Park, Portaferry - £186,507

BANGOR CYCLE PARK 

Located at Bangor Sportsplex

The project aims to create pathways for increased levels of cross-community interaction via five separate cycling facilities, including

  • a pump-track
  • a BMX racing track
  • an inclusive-Cycling-Area
  • an Accessible Learn-To-Ride area
  • cross country (XC) trails
  • They also aim to have a community café/workshop.

A public information session about the Bangor Cycle Park project was held on Tuesday 24 June 2025 at Bangor Sportsplex. This provided residents with an opportunity to view project plans, ask questions, and engage with the project teams.
