Mayor of Ards and North Down Joins Community for "Nowhere To Run To" 5k Fun Run
Released: Monday 9 June 2025

On Sunday 8 June 2025, Ward Park in Bangor was filled with energy and enthusiasm as hundreds gathered for the third annual "Nowhere To Run To" 5k Fun Run. With the largest turnout to date, the event aimed to raise awareness about domestic violence and abuse within the community.
Participants of all ages and backgrounds came together to support the cause, highlighting the importance of addressing domestic violence and abuse, which affects individuals regardless of race, religion, sexuality, age, political beliefs, or income. The event served as a powerful platform to shine a light on this critical issue and to support those who may feel isolated and without help.
Local organisations such as Women's Aid and the Men's Advisory Project were at the forefront of the event, with all proceeds going towards their vital work. These organisations provide essential services, including confidential counselling, floating support, children's services, training and emergency crisis accommodation.
The event was made possible through the support of the Ards and North Down Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) and the South Eastern Area Domestic and Sexual Violence and Abuse Partnership, whose funding and facilitation were crucial to its success.
Participating in the event, the Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Gillian McCollum, said:
"The 'Nowhere To Run To' 5k Fun Run is essential in raising awareness about domestic violence and abuse. The participation of so many people helps shine a light on these critical issues and supports the vital work of organisations like Women's Aid and the Men's Project. I express my gratitude to all participants, whether they were running for a personal best, walking with friends, or simply showing support. The collective presence of the community sends a powerful message of solidarity and hope to those affected by domestic violence and abuse."
