Mayor's Christmas Message

Released: 19 December 2025

As we approach the end of another year, I wish to share a message of hope and togetherness. This year, my theme has been Belonging; a reminder that every person in our Borough matters, every person is worthy of belonging and we are stronger when we stand together.

Christmas is a time when that sense of belonging truly comes into focus. It is about community, kindness and reaching out to those around us. Throughout this year, it has been my privilege to witness countless examples of people in our Borough supporting one another, from neighbours helping neighbours, volunteers giving their time and organisations working tirelessly to ensure that no one feels alone. These acts of compassion are the real heartbeat of Ards and North Down.

As we celebrate this festive season, I hope we can continue to nurture that spirit. Whether it's checking in on someone who may feel isolated, donating to a local cause, or simply sharing a smile or your time, every gesture matters. Together, we can do our bit to ensure that everyone feels they belong.

I also want to pay tribute to the incredible volunteers and essential workers across our Borough. From those who serve in our emergency services to those who provide care and support in our communities, your dedication is truly inspiring. You remind us daily of what it means to belong to a caring and resilient community.

This year, I am proud to support three remarkable charities: St Vincent de Paul, Women's Aid, and Orchardville. Each plays a vital role in creating a sense of belonging, whether helping families in need, supporting women and children affected by domestic abuse, or empowering individuals with learning disabilities and autism to live, learn and work. Funds raised during my Mayoral year will be shared among these organisations, and I encourage everyone to support them in any way they can. The services they provide are never more vital than during the Christmas season.

Christmas may look different for each of us, but its true meaning remains the same. It is a time of hope, peace and love. Please enjoy the season safely, cherish time with loved ones and believe that by looking out for one another, we can build a brighter future for all.

From my family to yours, I wish you a very Happy Christmas and a New Year filled with love, hope and belonging.
