Generations connect at Stormont during Positive Ageing Month
Released: Monday 12 October 2026
Members of the Over 50s Council and pupils from Nendrum College came together for a special intergenerational visit to Stormont during Positive Ageing Month.
The Stormont Engagement Team introduced the group to the work of the Northern Ireland Assembly and explained how it operates. Participants also enjoyed a guided tour of Parliament Buildings, where they learned more about its history and democratic role.
Supported by the Public Health Agency, the event showed how bringing different generations together can challenge assumptions, encourage understanding and help people discover shared interests.
Reflecting on the visit, Over 50s Council member Finula said: "It was both enjoyable and informative. It was a pleasure to meet the Nendrum College pupils. They are terrific ambassadors for their school."
Mrs Black from Nendrum College added:
"Thank you for such a wonderful day! The pupils and I all had a great time. I think they will be talking about this event for a long time."
The positive response has already led to discussions about future activities, including a possible visit to the school and further opportunities for both generations to meet.
The Stormont visit was a fitting way to celebrate Positive Ageing Month and showed how intergenerational activities can bring people together, strengthen communities and create lasting connections.
