Celebrating 36 Years of Community, Fun and Inclusion at The Hub Additional Needs Disco
Released: Thursday 26 March 2026
Ards and North Down Borough Council has marked an incredible milestone — 36 years of the much‑loved Additional Needs Disco, a long‑running programme delivered by the Council's Community Development team to support and engage individuals with additional needs.
The anniversary was celebrated with a special Awards Night at the Hamilton Road Community Hub, where members, carers, volunteers and staff came together to recognise more than three decades of music, friendship and community spirit.
What began at Birdland in the Library at Ward Park has continued to grow and evolve, moving to The Basement, then Hamilton House, before finding its vibrant and welcoming home at the Hamilton Road Community Hub.
The Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Gillian McCollum, praised the dedication of everyone involved:
"I'd like to congratulate Council's Community Development team, staff and volunteers for the remarkable achievement of 36 years of service. Your commitment ensures this programme continues to run safely, joyfully and with immense impact.
And to the participants - you are to be congratulated for the fun, laughter, happiness and energy you bring every week. You are at the heart of what makes these discos so special."
