Publication of Statement of Community Involvement

Please note that we are currently reviewing our Statement of Community Involvement and will update upon approval by DFI.

In the short term, in light of the current Covid-19 crisis, please be advised that it is necessary for us to carry out our statutory advertising in the Belfast Telegraph and the Irish News from 17th April, until such times as the Spectator and Chronicle resume circulation.

The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) is now published and has been agreed with the Department for Infrastructure.

Community involvement is an integral part of the planning process. As the local planning authority, the Council is required to publish a SCI to show how people can become involved in the planning process.

Our SCI sets out how Council intends to engage with the public, stakeholders and Government Departments in exercising its planning functions: preparing the Local Development Plan, deciding planning applications in the Borough, pursuing planning enforcement, and other planning matters.

The SCI may be downloaded at the link below or viewed at the Council’s Planning office – 2 Church Street, Newtownards - during normal office hours.
