Community Summer schemes

Update: 10 June 2022

Registration for Community Summer Schemes 2022 is now closed.

There are some places are available for both week 1 and week 2 (9-11 age group only) at the following schemes:

  • Bowtown 
  • Carrowdore
  • Portavogie
  • West Winds

If you have made an application online and provided us with your email address you may have received an email from us to acknowledge your application has been received.  This is NOT confirmation your child has a place. Summer Scheme Registration will be closing on Friday 20 May. However we are updating our information daily to indicate where schemes are already FULL (See table below).

What happens next, after registration form is completed online?

Applications are processed on a first come first served basis. We will contact you by 27 May to confirm if:

  • your child/children has a place on summer scheme
  • you are on a waiting list or
  • your application has been unsuccessful, due to demand.

If you child/children's place is confirmed you will be notified of date, time and location of the next stage of registration, which will include payment.

You will also be required to bring the following documents with you:

  • proof of child’s age,
  • residence in Borough and
  • (if applicable to avail of concession rate) confirmation that you receive Free School Meals (FSM).

You will also be asked to complete a Medical Declaration for your child(ren).

Summer Scheme Dates 2022

This year the Summer Schemes will run for two weeks.

  • Week 1 – Monday 18 to Friday 22 July 2022
  • Week 2 – Monday 25 to Friday 29 July 2021  

The schemes will run from 10am to 3pm each day.

Registration details 

  • This year we hope to trial a new online registration process: visit the Registration Page here
  • Parents / Guardians will be asked to follow up the online registration with in-person payment, completion of medical questionnaire and provision of supporting documents including proof of child date of birth, proof of residence in the borough and proof of eligibility for concession rate (if applicable).  
  • Registration will be open for two weeks: from 12noon on Monday 9 May until 12 noon on Friday 20 May 2022.
  • If all places are allocated, registration may close earlier than the advertised date.

Frequently asked questions

How do I register my child(ren)?

We hope to trial an online registration process this year.

Registration will be open for two weeks - from 10am on Monday 9 May (to be confirmed), closing 12 noon on Friday 20 May 2022.

Visit the Registration Page here Parents / Guardians will be asked to follow up the online registration with in-person payment, completion of medical questionnaire and provision of supporting documents including proof of child date of birth, proof of residence in the borough and proof of eligibility for concession rate (if applicable).

Acceptable documents

  • proof of date of birth – birth certificate, passport, medical appointment for child (all child’s details contained on this)
  • proof of residence document - utility bill
  • concession document – letter showing confirmation of free school meals for this academic year

The registration period may close early if all places are filled in advance of the closing date.

How much does it cost?

Cost is £25 per child per week.

Concession Rates

Concession rates apply to those families in receipt of Free School Meals. To confirm eligibility for a concession rate, a letter confirming FSM must be shown.

The concession rate is £12.50 per child per week.

Who are the summer schemes for?

​Children who are in school, in classes P1 - P7 (children must have completed P1)

What activities will be included?

Each scheme will have a varied programme* of activities and events. This may include the following:

  • Arts and Crafts
  • Games
  • Street hockey/bowls
  • Dancing
  • Trips (TBC)

*Programme content will be compliant with risk assessments and is subject to change according to Government guidelines.

Are there other Council summer schemes running this year?

Our popular Leisure Schemes will return this summer to Ards Blair Mayne and Comber Leisure Centre. Booking for these opens 9am on Tuesday 24 May

Skateparks Summer Schemes

Ards and North Down Peace VI Partnership are running a series of free summer schemes for young people aged 11 to 14 years old with an interest in Scooters, BMX, Parkour or skateboarding

  • Comber skatepark – Monday 25th July to Friday 29th July 2022
  • Newtownards skatepark - Monday 15th August to Friday 19th August 2022
  • Portavogie skatepark – Monday 22nd August to Friday 26th August 2022

Every day from 12 – 4pm (Monday starts at 11am).

The event is being run in partnership with Thunder Park and the Education Authority. For more information and to sign up (first come, first served)
