Borough Magazine Summer 2019

In this edition of your Borough Magazine we are focusing on improving the health and wellbeing of our residents. Outcome 2 of the Big Plan for Ards and North Down states that; ‘All people in Ards and North Down enjoy good health and wellbeing’. We will continue to work towards this outcome by empowering people to take control of their personal wellbeing and to make better life choices by increasing opportunities for people to adopt more active lifestyles.

We want to encourage everyone across the borough to live longer, feel healthier, be happier and get the most from life. We are actively supporting the Public Health Agency message to take five simple steps to help maintain and improve your wellbeing. You can read about this as you move through this edition.

Summer would not be summer in Ards and North Down without a packed programme of events and this year is no different. Some of the major highlights include Comber Earlies Food Festival (June), Summer Music in the Park (July and August), Portavogie Seafood Festival (August) and Aspects Festival (September). Whether you want to sample local produce, enjoy an evening out or keep the kids entertained over the school holidays, there is something for everyone.

We continue to work hard to make Ards and North Down the best place to live, work, visit and invest and are delighted to have signed a development agreement for the Queen's Parade site in Bangor. £50M will be invested by Bangor Marine in a mixed-use scheme including new shops, offices, homes and leisure activities.

Thanks to the savings achieved by the fantastic recycling efforts of local residents, we have been able to grow our Recycling Community Investment Fund (RCIF). This fund enables us to develop and support a wide range of community projects that are helping to make Ards and North Down a more sustainable borough. We are particularly pleased to be working with NI Water to become the first Refill borough in Northern Ireland.

You can read about all this and more in this edition. We hope that you find it interesting and informative.
