Borough Magazine Spring/Summer 2022

Open our Interactive Borough Magazine for Spring/Summer 2022

As Spring beckons, we look forward to brighter days and longer evenings. It seems too, that we have turned a corner with the global pandemic that has been such a defining force in our daily lives over the past two years. While COVID-19 remains a risk, we should greet the relaxing of restrictions with cautious optimism and as an indication that we can now approach our path to recovery with renewed energy and spirit.

In this edition of the Borough Magazine, we shine a light on the continuing need for everyone to be more sustainable and showcase just some of the Council initiatives that will help our Borough to lead the way. For us to succeed, we need to work together and we must act now. We hope to inspire you to get involved and help us, in what needs to be our collective mission.

Sustainability requires economic, social and environment impacts to be considered together and this also includes the need to consider climate action (in the form of mitigation and adaptation).

Our ambitious regeneration of Bangor Waterfront and the development of our Greenways Network will help contribute to an environment where we embrace a healthy lifestyle; are connected to our natural surroundings and where local jobs are created, and a local economy sustained.

Our economic and environmental challenges with waste management require a fundamental shift in our behaviours and we have outlined some of the ways that we can all take small steps to make a big impact. Effective partnering plays a vital role in our sustainability journey and I would encourage you to read the story of AND Sustainable Giants – Green Tourism Network. This inspiring collaborationis just one example of how we can work together to move forward.

The next few months bring great cause for celebration, as we look forward to marking Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Learn more about our plans to celebrate as a Borough on page 18. These are just some of the highlights from this edition. There is more inside, and I hope you enjoy the read.

As ever, we welcome your feedback on the Borough Magazine and on all our services.
