Balloo Recycling Centre
Periods following Bank/Public holidays are likely to be busier than normal, therefore delays can be expected.
Household Recycling Centres at Balloo, Ballygowan, Comber, Donaghadee, Holywood, Kircubbin, Millisle, Newtownards and Portaferry will be closed on Bank/Public holidays. The Centres will be closed on 24, 25 and 26 December 2019, as well as New Year's Day, 1 January 2020.
Please note that from March 2019, walk-ins are NOT permitted at any of the HRCs with the exception of Holywood HRC (via separate pedestrian access gate). This is for health and safety reasons. Thank you for your understanding.

What you can recycle
Garden waste, wood and timber, scrap metal, fridges and freezers, large appliances, small appliances, TVs and monitors, portable batteries, car batteries, used engine oil, cooking oil, fluorescent tubes, paint, paint reuse, mixed glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles, mixed paper, food and drink cans, ink cartridges, textiles, books, gas bottles, reuse container, plasterboard, rubble, carpet, mattresses and cardboard. If disposing of an old oil tank, please note that it must be drained and cut in half before bringing to the HRC.
From 15 January 2018 householders will be required to have an access permit to use the Borough's household recycling centres (HRCs) in a van or large trailer (larger than single axle). Full details here
