Remember to Spend Local before Scheme Closure!

Wednesday 8th December 2021

Ards and North Down Borough Council is delighted that businesses across the Borough have all embraced the Spend Local Scheme so well, with many adding their own seasonal discounts or incentives for their customers in the countdown to Christmas.

The scheme has certainly increased footfall in our high streets and provided a very welcome cash injection into our local economy.  People have rediscovered the great businesses ‘on their doorsteps’ and our home-grown businesses are certainly to be congratulated for their resilience and for the innovation they have shown in meeting customers’ needs so effectively.

The Spend Local Scheme closes on Sunday 19 December, so if you haven’t used your card yet, make sure you have plans in place to spend local this weekend, to give your local community and businesses the continued boost they need after such a turbulent time during the pandemic.

Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Mark Brooks welcomes the renewed energy in our local high streets,

“It is fantastic to see shoppers back with the festive buzz of Christmas and taking the opportunity to browse their local high streets to find the perfect gift for family and friends. I applaud local businesses for their continued ingenuity and staying power. Council remains committed to supporting the recovery of our local economy with ongoing initiatives into the new year.”
