Provision of Urgent and Emergency Care Services in Ards and North Down

Tuesday 7th March 2023

The South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust has gone out to Public Consultation about the future model of Urgent and Emergency Care in the Ards and North Down Area.

The proposal is to develop a new Consultant led Urgent Care Centre, alongside the Emergency Department at the Ulster Hospital.

In order to achieve this, the Trust is proposing to close the Minor Injuries Units in both the Ards and Bangor COmmunity Hospitals.
At the Council meeting held on Wednesday 22 February 2023, grave concerns were raised about the possible implications this will have for people seeking to access medical care in the Ards and North Down Borough. The Council encourages all local residents to engage with the consultation process and to respond as part of the campaign to retain these important services.

The consultation will last for 12 weeks, beginning on 8 February 2023 and closing on 3 May 2023.
