The Council has been advised by Unite the Union that the Industrial Action has been suspended.

Industrial Action – Update 29 April 2022

The Council has been advised by Unite the Union that the Industrial Action proposed to take place from Tuesday 3 May to Sunday 15 May 2022 inclusive has been suspended.

This means that Council services will run as normal next week, following the Bank Holiday on Monday 2 May 2022.

Please note that there will be no household bin collections on Bank Holiday Monday 2 May.  Household Recycling Centres at Balloo, Ballygowan, Comber, Donaghadee, Holywood, Kircubbin, Millisle, Newtownards and Portaferry will be closed, reopening on Tuesday 3 May.

Household bin collections will take place one day after your normal scheduled collection day. Please leave your bin/glass collection box out by 7am on the day of collection.

Original message below:

The Council, like a number of other public bodies, has been advised by the Unite Union of strike action by its members.

In Ards and North Down this is proposed to run from Tuesday 3 to Sunday 15 May 2022 (in other council areas action is starting from Monday 25 April).

In anticipation of disruption to kerbside collections, households are encouraged to make maximum use of the kerbside collection service during this week.  Please put the appropriate bins out for collection on your collection day, even if they are only partially full, to ensure you have the maximum capacity available to you over the strike period.

Full details of service impacts will be shared here on the website and on our digital channels in due course.

++This page will be updated in line with any changes to services as a result of the strike.++
