Enjoy a Safe and Happy Halloween!

Ards and North Down Borough Council would like to remind residents of some top tips to keep all the family safe this Halloween.

If you are buying Halloween costumes or fireworks, check they have the CE mark, which shows they meet European Safety Standards.

When trick or treating, always keep children away from naked flames and candles. Be on guard to check for trailing or loose parts of costumes, as these can easily catch fire.

Make sure you always read all safety instructions for costumes and fireworks – follow the instructions for each firework and do this by torchlight – do not use a naked flame!

Get everyone in your party to stand well back when lighting fireworks and remember – do not go back to a firework once it is lit – even if it hasn’t gone off – as it could still explode.

Light sparklers one at a time and wear gloves. It’s important to always supervise children with sparklers and never give one to a child under five years old.

And remember, keep pets indoors and please be considerate to other people who might not be celebrating.

Scare safely and enjoy Halloween!
