Acts of Remembrance 2023
The Council has received invitations to attend a range of Remembrance Day Services across the Borough.
Details of arrangements for Remembrance Day Services on Sunday, 5 November 2022 (Groomsport) and Sunday, 12 November 2023 are laid out below.
Bangor
Remembrance Day Service at the War Memorial 10.40am. After the service at the War Memorial, the parade will march through the town to the Royal British Legion Social Club and will disperse from there.
Holywood
Service at the Cenotaph at 10.50am. After the 2 minute’s silence at 11.00am the Parade will proceed to St Phillip and St James Parish Church, Church Road, Holywood.
Newtownards
Following a wreath laying ceremony at 10.10am, the Royal British Legion will parade to St Marks Parish Church, Church Street, Newtownards for the Remembrance Service which commences at 11.30am. After the Church Service the parade will march back to the Royal British Legion.
Donaghadee
Guests are invited to assemble at the War Memorial at 10.30-10.40am. After the Act of Remembrance and wreath laying,ceremony participants will walk to Donaghadee Methodist Church for a Remembrance Service.
Comber
Members will form up at 10am and march to the War Memorial in The Square for a wreath laying ceremony. This will be followed by a Church Service in St Mary’s Parish Church. Please note parking in St Mary’s car park is reserved for parishioners.
Millisle
There will be a short Act of Remembrance at 11.00am at the War Memorial. The parade will then proceed to the Millisle and Ballycopeland Presbyterian Church, for the Service at 11.30am.
Ballywalter
The parade will leave the Beach Car Park, Main Street at 10.45am for an Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial at 10.50am. This will be followed by a Church Service at Ballywalter Parish Holy Trinity Church at 11.15am. The Parade and march past will take place at approximately 12.05pm.
Craigavad Helen’s Bay
A service of remembrance will be held at St John The Baptist Church of Ireland, Fort Road, Helen's Bay. The service starts at 10.30 am.
Portavogie
A service of remembrance will be held at Portavogie War Memorial, Harbour Road, Portavogie at 9am.
Groomsport
The Groomsport Remembrance Day Service will be held on Sunday, 5 November 2023 at 2.45pm. Muster by invitation is at 2.00pm and those wishing to Parade should assemble at The Church or Ireland in Groomsport.
