Acts of Remembrance 2021

Council Members will attend a range of Remembrance Day Services across the Borough this November.

Details of arrangements for Remembrance Day Services on Sunday, 7 November 2021 (Groomsport) and Sunday, 14 November 2021 are below.  

If planning to attend a local Act of Remembrance, to limit the risk of transmission of the coronavirus, please:

  • observe social distancing and avoid close contact where possible
  • wear a face covering if you are able to
  • maintain good hand hygiene and use hand sanitisers when not at home
  • consider doing a lateral flow test 24 hours before/after attending an event

Remembrance Day Service at the War Memorial at 10.40am. After the service at the War Memorial, the parade will march through the town to the Royal British Legion Social Club and will disperse. 


Service at 10.30am at the Cenotaph. The event will conclude following the 2 minute’s silence at 11.00am. There will be a church service at St Phillip and St James Parish Church, Church Road, Holywood at 11.30am.  


 A Wreath Laying ceremony will take place at 10.10am at the Cenotaph, Court Square, Newtownards. The Royal British Legion will parade around the town and back to Court Square.  


A Service and Wreath Laying ceremony will take place at the War Memorial at 11am. The Peninsula and Donaghadee Branch Royal British Legion has requested that Members of the public do not attend the War Memorial during the Act of Remembrance but, if you feel you must attend, have asked that you observe social distancing and wear face coverings. If anyone other than the invited guests would like to lay a wreath or plant a cross, please consider doing so at an alternative time over the weekend. 


Members will leave St Mary’s Church car park 10.15am to march to the War Memorial in The Square for a Wreath Laying ceremony.  


The parade to the Memorial will leave the Royal British Legion, Churchill Avenue at 10.30am to parade to the War Memorial for a short Act of Remembrance at 11.00am.  


An Act of Remembrance will take place at the War Memorial at 10.50am. The parade will leave the Beach Car Park in Main Street, Ballywalter at 10.45am. 


A Service of Remembrance will be held at Portavogie War Memorial, Harbour Road, Portavogie at 9am. 


A Remembrance Day Service will be held at the War Memorial on Sunday, 7 November 2021 at 2.45pm. Muster by invitation is at 2pm. All those wishing to parade will assemble at the Church of Ireland Church, Groomsport.
