Rhys McClenaghan

On Tuesday 15 May Ards and North Down Borough Council is holding an event celebrating Rhys McClenaghan’s gold win in gymnastics at this year’s Commonwealth Games, that took place in Australia in April.

The public are invited to come and show their support to our local sporting hero and his fellow Games participants who will be arriving by open top bus at 6.30pm into Conway Square, Newtownards.

Their arrival will be followed by a live interview with Rhys on stage with internationally recognised athlete, Olympic gold medallist, Dame Mary Peters, with the Ards Arts Centre (Town Hall) as the backdrop.

Rhys is keen to meet and greet the crowd, providing a lovely opportunity for those who have been inspired by his success and enthusiasm.

Rhys is now working hard towards achieving success in the European Championships and the World Championships.

Mayor of Ards and North Down Councillor Robert Adair is looking forward to the event, “As a borough we should be very proud of the Rhys’ phenomenal success and the efforts and contribution that every member of the team put into the Commonwealth Games. I hope to see a great turnout of support for Rhys and the team at the event on Tuesday evening.”

We hope to see you there!
