Platinum Jubilee
This year, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service. During the 4-day Bank Holiday, from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June, multiple events will be planned throughout the UK and beyond to celebrate this momentous occasion. Here are some of the highlights:
In keeping with the long tradition of celebrating Royal Jubilees, Beacon Lighting will take place across the nation on the evening of Thursday 2 June.
The AND Platinum Pudding Competition will encourage star bakers from across the Borough to produce a pudding fit for a Queen.
On our digital channels, we will be sharing Jubilee Stories from people across the Borough who have met Her Majesty.
The Queen’s Green Canopy is a unique initiative inviting us to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’, right up until end of 2022. The Council’s Parks team has been doing just that, with the help of schools and community groups across the Borough.
And let’s not forget the Platinum Jubilee City Status Competition, with 39 locations in the running, including Bangor in Ards and North Down!
Celebrating in Ards and North Down
During the long Bank Holiday weekend we will be celebrating in style at Sea Bangor Celebrates The Platinum Jubilee, on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June. Expect great music, fabulous food and fun-packed entertainment. Keep your diaries free and your bunting poised!
Funding has been granted to local community groups to host street parties and big lunches: we encourage all event organisers to share details of their event via the official Platinum Jubilee Events page: Events – The Queen's Platinum Jubilee 2022
