Emergency planning
In Ards and North Down we work with various agencies and the Eastern Civil Contingencies Group to ensure we are ready to respond and help the community if a major emergency takes place.
Home insurance
Buy adequate building and contents insurance to cover your home and belongings against any risks in your area, for example flood damage. You should know how to turn off water, electricity and gas supplies and where these connection feeds are in your home.
Emergency contact telephone numbers
It is important to keep a list of emergency contact numbers in case you need to contact any of these services during adverse weather conditions or other emergency.

Homeowner Flood Protection Grant Scheme
If you own your home and experienced indoor flooding from a river, sea, surface water or sewerage, you could be eligible for a grant to protect your home against flooding. It is a government scheme to help homeowners who:
- experienced flooding in their home at least once in last twenty five years
- live in an area where there is a recognised risk of flooding
The grant could cover some or most of the cost of installing barrier equipment to protect a home from flooding in the future. The Homeowner Flood Protection Grant scheme grant scheme is not open to tenants.
