Newtownards to Green Road

**The first consultation exercise has now closed. A second public consultation will be held, reflecting changes to the proposed route. Dates to be confirmed**

In relation to the plans for the Newtownards to The Coastal Path greenway, following an initial consultation exercise the draft route was altered to focus on linking Newtownards to Green Road and onwards into Bangor town centre.  This change was made following responses to the consultation and meetings with both residents and landowners about the challenges of managing increased traffic on the originally proposed route to Helen’s Bay.

In addition, tourism and regeneration consultees had highlighted the benefits of considering a more urban route through to Bangor town centre that would complement and enhance the investment plans for Bangor Waterfront and Queen’s Parade.  Once linked to Bangor Waterfront users can then travel west along the North Down Coastal Path to Helen’s Bay and on to Holywood and East to Groomsport and Donaghadee

There will be a second pre-application public consultation event on the alternative route. This event will be held in Aurora, Bangor and Londonderry Park, Newtownards – dates will be shared on the Council’s website and social media in due course.
