Positive Ageing Month
Every year, Positive Ageing Month is celebrated in October, and it is a month-long campaign of events, activities and programmes that promote positive ageing as well as celebrating the contribution older people make to their communities. Ards and North Down is recognised as having an ageing population, meaning that the demographic profile will change significantly over the next 10- 20 years. It is for us all to consider how best to support the older people in our communities and also how to best celebrate their contribution to community life.
Age Friendly Ards and North Down, supported by the Public Health Agency and in partnership with Ards and North Down Policing and Community Safety Partnership are delivering roadshow events for older people across the Borough that will focus on the themes of community safety, home safety, preparing for winter and keeping active. Each roadshow will deliver several key presentations as well as a wide range of information stands showcasing what support and activities are available for older people.
To join us, you must register at least a week before your chosen event. Come on your own or with a friend. All welcome!

In addition, a comprehensive programme has been developed in line with the PHA’s ‘Take 5 Steps’ to maintain mental wellbeing, that encourages older people to Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing: Be Active, Give, Connect, Keep Learning and Take Notice. These five steps built into our daily lives can help maintain and improve our health and emotional well-being. There is a wide range of activities available providing older people with an opportunity to try something new or simply reconnect with others. Some of the events require pre-booking so please read through what is on offer and check with the organiser in advance of the dates to ensure there have been no further amendments made.
