The Creative Peninsula

Experience and enjoy some of the best visual art and craft that Northern Ireland has to offer at the Creative Peninsula, a superb creative series of events taking place in Ards and North Down from Friday 31 July to Sunday 9 August.

Now in its 14th year, the Creative Peninsula offers a range of free and bookable opportunities to see, learn about and even ‘try your hand’ at some of the many art and craft forms that are practised in the local area.

The 10 days of creativity starts with ‘Craft in the Square’ at the newly refurbished Conway Square in Newtownards on Friday 31 July.  For one day only the space will be transformed into a creative hub with more than 35 artists and makers displaying and selling their work and talking about what inspires them.  Free demonstrations including clay carving, dry felting, tiffany glass and making ceramic teapots will run throughout the day.

Creative Cafes offer participants an opportunity to join a ceramic, calligraphy or clay making workshop led by an experienced local artist or maker, whilst enjoying a cuppa and a slice of cake in one of the  Peninsula’s finest coffee shops.

Visitors can also try their hand at making in a series of art and craft workshops.  Makers from across Ards and North Down will be demonstrating their craft, giving participants tips on artistic techniques as well as a ‘hands on’ experience making their own piece of art work to take home.

The whole family can spend an inspiring Sunday experiencing 'Art Alfresco' at the scenic Mount Stewart House and Gardens with artists and makers providing free demonstrations throughout the afternoon.

Open Studios provide a ‘behind the scenes’ insight into the artist process on a special studio visit to one of our local ceramicists, painters, weavers, glass artists, wood turners or jewellery designers.  Choose to make your own tour or book one of the event’s ever popular studio coach tours on Saturday 1 August and Friday 7 August.
